Genealogy (Love of the Hunt)

Hello fellow Genealogy Hunters!  Lets continue with setting up your Genealogy Homepage.  U have signed in to igoogle and your homepage has been saved and now u r ready to delete gadgets and add ur custom genealogy gadgets.  At the top of the gadget u want to delete, click downarrow in top right of the gadget and a pull down menu will appear, click on delete gadget.   Delete all the gadgets u don't want first.   Now lets add genealogy gadgets.  Click on add gadget right upper corner. A new page will appear.   In the gadget search box type in genealogy.   All gadgets pertaining to Genealogy will appear.  Go down thru the gadgets and add what appeals to you.   When done, click themes, upper righthand corner and pick ur theme.   When done click the home button and it will appear as your new genealogy homepage.   If u want to move the gadgets around to different spots on the homepage just hover over the blue space at the top of gadget window, hold down the left mouse button and move it where u want.   cga

Hunters, how was your memorial day weekend?   Were you able to record some great stories from ur veteran relatives.   This week we are learning how to set up ur Genealogical homepage on igoogle.   By now u should have a gmail account.   If not, sign up for one.   It is a great way to keep ur genealogy in the forefront.  We are going to call it your Genealogy Dashboard.   This dashboard will contain gadgets.   What r gadgets?   They r windows to carry out tasks like weather, date and time, notes, etc...Please note that google appears and behaves differently on different types of computers.   Igoogle also makes changes without notice.   Until tomorrow when we will actually setup the dashboard.    cga

Hello everyone, sorry so late in the day.   I am going to continue with google for genealogy "Working Offline".   It is inevitable that u will some day need 2 work offline.   U an catch up on email or write one offline and when u go back up, u can send.   U must however tell google this!!   Under settings, tap offline and google will download a local cache of your mail which syncs with gmail's servicers while u r connected.   Tomorrow we will catch up with your Memorial Weekend and how u did recording stories.   Until then.....cga

Genealogy (Lov of the Hunt)

Hi fellow hunters.   How is your hunting?   Have u found any gr8 finds?  I want to keep you all updated on the status of the 1940 census indexing by Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org.   One is a paid subscription and the other is free.  Remember, you can access Ancestry.com from your local libraries.  Check their websites for further information such as day and times they are open.  Ancestry.com has 4 states indexed including Delaware, Nevada, DC and Maine.  Familysearch.org has more states available due to the fact that millions of volunteers are helping them to index.   You can check periodically what states are indexed by going to their website.   Today, the following states are 100% indexed:   AL, AZ, CO, DE, FL, HI, ID, KS, LA, MS, NV, NH, OR, UT, WY, VA.   Good luck and have fun.   cga

Happy May 1st....we are going to continue with our Google for Genealogy.  Did u know that u can work with google mail offline.   Maybe u only have a certain time to be online, well activate offline from google setting and u can work with and write emails offline.
..1..go to google mail.
..2..click on settings in far right corner
..3..click on setting again
..4..at the top line far right click offline and follow the instructions.
The email that you write will be sent as soon as you go online.   Have fun genealogists.   Remember, keep indexing those 1940 census for us.   cg
